Marketing and Communications Associate

FSP galvanizes a diverse set of leaders across the public, private, and nonprofit sectors to solve the most critical financial challenges. Essential  Duties  and  Responsibilities:  The Marketing and Communications Associate creates and implements integrated content for a wide range of FSP platforms, including websites, email marketing, and social media channels.  The Associate builds and maintains key tools and software, brand materials, and engages with key stakeholders and partners to promote FSPís brand and helps each initiative achieve its communications goals. 


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Website and Social Media

  • Set clear and measurable annual goals around viewership, followers, and growth to improve FSPís digital footprint and extend the reach of its research and ideas
  • Maintain web properties including and, updating promptly, and ensuring minimal downtime and website breaks
  • Create a strategy for amplifier engagement to boost the reach of FSPís messages
  • Partner with Aspen Institute communications team to place FSP content on its web platforms, social media, and other channels
  • Produce engaging and substantive digital content to meet growth and campaign goals
  • Produce quarterly report outlining results against goals 

Email Marketing and List Management

  • Set clear and measurable growth goals to increase the size of FSPís email list
  • Understand email marketing best practices and SPAM laws to ensure compliance across FSP
  • Format and send email blasts including newsletters, report releases, and other updates in email marketing platform (Mailchimp)
  • Maintain lists between email marketing platform and CRM software 
  • Produce quarterly report outlining results against goals 

Content Creation and Editing

  • Project manage the design and production of issue briefs, white papers, presentations, and other FSP publications, working with outside firms to create high-quality materials in accordance with Aspen Institute brand guidelines
  • Copy-edit materials as requested
  • Understand digital design principles to advise FSP writers and researchers on how to organize content for readability and user experience
  • Develop and edit one-pagers, PowerPoint presentations, social media toolkits, microcontent, videos, and other outputs as requested
  • Produce post-campaign reports outlining results against goals 

Event Support

  • Create project plans to support event registration, attendance, and communications
  • Manage event websites, registration flows, and pre- and post- event mass email communications with the goal of improving attendee experience
  • Book photographers and live streaming for events at headquarters
  • Support day-of event logistics as needed
  • Produce post-event report outlining results (of tasks owned by Associate) and opportunities for improvement


  • Track all inbound media requests and outcomes
  • Maintain current lists of priority journalists across FSPís major research topics
  • Receive inbound journalist requests, conduct research on journalist, and make recommendation for accepting or declining invitation and which Aspen FSP spokesperson is most appropriate
  • Establish strong relationships with reporters, including following up after interview or event and sharing places FSP is quoted through FSPís social media channels
  • Produce quarterly reports on FSP media coverage and opportunities

Project Management and Teamwork

  • Participate on a variety of projects across the organization and be willing to work outside of core area of expertise
  • Advise on ways to improve workflows between communications department and rest of organization, being flexible and resourceful as priorities change


Knowledge, Education and Experience Sought:

  • 3-5 years of relevant experience in a communications or marketing role
  • Experience creating digital content and managing social media channels
  • Experience in managing digital content systems (such as WordPress or SquareSpace) and of social media management tools and CRM
  • Familiarity with Adobe Designer Suite
  • Excellent written and verbal communications ability
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to multi-task on numerous projects, large and small, in both collaborative and independent situations
  • Some knowledge of or interest in issues related to financial security policy, including retirement savings, asset building, or consumer protection is a plus
