The Congressional Program is celebrating its 40th year in 2023 and is designed to promote leadership on public policy issues by bringing together legislators from both political parties with internationally renowned scholars for high level discussions and analysis. Since our programís inception, more than 485 members of Congress have participated in our 151 domestic and international conferences.

Basic Function:

The Senior Associate of Congressional Engagement will be the key team member interacting with member offices and collaborating closely with other team members to develop programming and congressional invitees to our conferences and other events to make these events most impactful for members of Congress and congressional staff.  Program activities include 20-26 events on Capitol Hill each year and 3-5 conferences each year. This position would be part of a small, but mighty,  4-person team -  all working together - to provide programming highly valued by members of Congress and congressional staff members who attend these events.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Identify potential members of Congress for participation in Congressional Program events including breakfasts, conferences and develop outreach strategies to attract a balance of Republicans and Democrats from various regions of the country to participate in our events.
  • Assist Deputy Director with programming and attend our congressional breakfast series and our congressional staff lunch series and recruit congressional attendees based on topics and interests.
  • Assist with and attend 3-5 international conferences for members of Congress and one conference for congressional staff members each year.
  • Prepare conference notebooks and conference reports.
  • Technology leader for the program.

Knowledge, Education and Experience:

  • The position requires solid knowledge of the U.S. Congress and ability to engage with people from all political perspectives.
  • 2-4 years of current or very recent work in a Capitol Hill personal office or committee.
  • Great team player who can also work independently.
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills; experience drafting written communications for a congressional audience.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with or easily trained in Salesforce and a publishing program.
  • Comfortable with traveling to interesting parts of the world.
