The Stevens Initiative is an international effort to build global competence and career readiness skills for young people in the United States and the Middle East and North Africa by growing and enhancing the field of virtual exchange. Created in 2015, the Initiative is committed to helping expand the virtual exchange field through three pillars of work: investing in promising programs, sharing knowledge and resources, and advocating for virtual exchange adoption. The Stevens Initiative is sponsored by the U.S. Department of State, with funding provided by the U.S. Government, and is administered by the Aspen Institute. Position Description

The Program Coordinator supports the Stevens Initiative alumni and research portfolio.

Alumni Engagement

  • Support alumni engagement efforts with Stevens Initiative grantees, alumni, and partners, including:
    • Maintaining a database of alumni of Stevens Initiative programs, including working with Salesforce.
    • Regularly interfacing with grantees to support, monitor, and evaluate grantee alumni engagement activities.
    • Onboarding new grantees, improving alumni engagement plans, and developing monitoring plans.
    • Assist with monitoring grantees’ proposed alumni engagement activities, including updating plans, communicating with grantee staff, and providing support.
  • Source and write alumni success stories and developing other alumni communications deliverables, including communicating directly with Stevens Initiative alumni.
  • Contribute to developing Stevens Initiative-wide engagement opportunities and communicate these opportunities to alumni including:
    • The development and implementation of the Stevens Initiative Alumni Fellowship.
    • The preparation and dissemination of a bimonthly alumni newsletter.
  • Present information about the Initiative to alumni in virtual meetings or events.
  • Coordinate drafting sections of regular reports on Stevens Initiative and grantee alumni activities.

Research Hub (Knowledge Creation and Sharing)

  • Assist in the creation of publications and resources for Stevens Initiative partners and the field of virtual exchange, including planning, data gathering, and project development.
  • Support external consultants with different phases of work including developing request for proposals, reviewing proposals, and monitoring/reviewing deliverables.
  • Support the dissemination and promotion of final products by identifying networking and promotional opportunities, in addition to and collaborating with colleagues on these efforts.

Other Support

  • Contribute to a community of practice for Initiative grantees including alumni engagement, research and resource development, among other topical areas.
  • Support the development of funding solicitations and grant applications for the Initiative to potential funders including research, proposal drafting/writing, and other collaborations with colleagues.
  • Support the implementation of request for proposal (RFP) and grant application processes for the Initiative including research, proposal drafting/writing, review committee selection and support, and other collaborations with colleagues.
  • Assist with drafting sections of regular reports, such as those to funders and Initiative stakeholders

Knowledge, Education, Skills, and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree (preferred) plus 2-3 years of professional experience, preferably in the exchange or international education field or working with young people.
  • Demonstrated excellence in writing and analytic ability, including strong copyediting skills
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Experience engaging with multiple stakeholders, including professionals and youth.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work with team
  • Excellent computer skills and mastery of Microsoft Office Suite, and familiarity with office productivity tools like Google Docs, Zoom, etc.;
  • Strong interest in the work and mission of the Stevens Initiative and the ability to represent the Initiative externally.
  • Ability to multi-task on numerous projects, large and small, in both collaborative and independent situations
  • Ability to work autonomously and with a small team, often through virtual interactions.

The Institute has implemented a mandatory COVID vaccination policy for all employees who will work at one of our physical locations, attend any of our in-person events or travel on behalf of the Institute. Staff unable to be vaccinated may request an exemption under certain circumstances.
