Aspen Digital and the Women in the Workplace Innovation Challenge

Aspen Digital is a nonpartisan technology and information-focused program that brings together thinkers and doers to uncover new ideas and spark policies, processes, and procedures that empower communities and strengthen democracy. The Women in the Workplace Innovation Challenge is a new initiative that will advance innovative, high impact, actionable solutions that lower barriers for women in the workplace, and help women thrive to the benefit of themselves, their families, the economy, and the community at large. The program will consist of a grant competition, large summit, an advisory council and other competition judging groups, as well as significant engagement with workplace thought leaders, decision-makers, media, policy makers, and others in the space.


ABOUT THIS ROLE

The Program and Operations Manager comes with a strong track record of operational excellence, ideally including start-up experience, and assumes the primary role in project management and coordination of all activities related to the Women in the Workplace Innovation Challenge, a new initiative of the Aspen Institute. The program manager is responsible for coordinating all program operations including administrative and logistical activity related to first, the successful launch and then subsequently, the successful functioning and growth of the program.

The Program and Operations Manager will report to the Senior Director, Innovation Challenge. The salary range for this position is $100,000 - $120,000. This is a hybrid, Washington, DC-based position. Selected candidates are expected to work in person at the Washington, DC office approximately two days per week.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

  • Support and work closely with the Senior Director on all aspects of program launch, development, and implementation.

  • Develop and manage work plans and faced paced timelines for projects, and track and adjust tasks and milestones.

  • Address risks and issues affecting project deadlines, and maintain clear and consistent communication on status.

  • Coordinate meetings with internal and external stakeholders, and help steward meetings, e.g. by scheduling, inviting, and completing prep work.

  • Support collaboration with internal and external stakeholders under supervision of the Senior Director, including agenda setting and after-meeting follow-up.

  • Provide operational and programming capacity for virtual and in-person events, via coordination with the Aspen Digital’s events team, and more.

  • Support Senior Director with content development and relevant research for the program, such as briefing documents, donor updates, and landscape reviews and analysis.

  • Work with central functions at the Aspen Institute to develop and implement operational structures and processes – including hiring, new staff onboarding, contracts and vendor relationships, and other administrative processes.

  • Create, update and maintain contact database, and develop and maintain program file systems and archive.

  • Pay invoices, track expenses, with support from the Aspen Institute’s finance team, and interact with funders under supervision of the Senior Director.

WHAT YOU WILL NEED TO THRIVE

  • At least 5 to 7 years of relevant work experience in a similar, non-profit environment or start-up

  • Love of building and “getting things done”, and track record of excellent project management skills

  • Track record of organizing, implementing, and maintaining structure and processes in a fast-paced environment

  • Experience managing priorities and achieving results in a dynamic setting

  • Highly skilled and energized by handling external relations and representational roles, while building internal networks in the workplace

  • Previous experience working with high level stakeholders, such as donors and advisory councils

  • Familiarity with managing vendors and contractors

  • Highly tuned into the landscape and issues related to gender equity in the workplace, with familiarity of women in technology a plus

  • Strong analytical skills and strategic thinking, along with strong attention to detail

  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to “manage up”

  • Excellent communication and writing skills

  • Results-oriented, highly self motivated, enjoying collaborating with colleagues across teams
