The Aspen Network of Development Entrepreneurs (ANDE) is a program within the Aspen Institute. ANDE is a global membership network of organizations that propel entrepreneurship in emerging markets. ANDE members provide critical financial, educational, and business support services to small and growing businesses (SGBs) based on the conviction that SGBs will create jobs, stimulate long-term economic growth, and produce environmental and social benefits. Ultimately, we believe that SGBs can help lift countries out of poverty. Launched with 34 members in 2009, ANDE now comprises over 290 members who collectively operate in more than 150 countries.

ANDE is looking for a new Brazil Chapter Analyst for our Sao Paulo, Brazil office. 

Position Description

The Brazil Chapter Analyst is a key member of our team. By understanding the needs of ANDE members working in Brazil, the Program Coordinator will support day to day activities of the chapter, manage event logistics and communications, lead specific initiatives, and provide administrative support for local operations.

You might start the day responding to email requests from members who are looking for sector information and then hosting a check in meeting with a member. Immediately following those member activities, you are confirming the catering and AV set up for an event later in the week. After lunch, you join a skype call to discuss the chapter’s webpage communications strategy with your colleagues from Mexico and Kenya. Before heading out you log into the database to produce the quarterly report on local member engagement to send to DC headquarters, and then dash off to an evening networking reception hosted by a member.

This role will provide a wide variety of skills development opportunities and exposure to topic areas throughout the small and growing business space in developing countries.

This role will be based in the Sao Paulo and involves a mix of hours in the office, internal and external events. Flexible schedules and remote work will often be required to allow communication with our international team and members in other time zones.

Day to day work involves a wide variety of tasks, including:

  • Scheduling of, and organizing logistics for, meetings and networking events for members, as well as topic area webinars.
  • Development and management of communications strategy and all communication tools (newsletter, web, invites, etc) for the Brazil Chapter.
  • Building relationship with members and facilitating connections between the network of members.
  • Leadership of specific project initiatives, such as Learning Labs and Sector Events, from conception to implementation.
  • Management of chapter administrative tasks.
  • Oversee activities of an intern.
  • System updates.

The ideal candidate for this role:

  • Has 2-4 years’ experience working on event management and/or similar activities.
  • Is organized, goal-oriented and excels at handling multiple priorities at once.
  • Is fluent in Portuguese and proficient in English (for reports and conversation).
    • Thrives in a startup environment, where the onus is on you to make it work.
    • Encounters a problem and attacks it head on trying to figure it out on their own before asking for help, but also knowing when support is needed and when to ask for help.
    • Is a true team player and is excited about engaging with many cultures and learning about the sector.
    • Enjoy learning how to use new systems and platforms.
    • Has graduated in administration, journalism, public relations, international relations or related areas.
    • IMPORTANT: The position is based in Sao Paulo, Brazil. All applicants must have current authorization to work in Brazil and speak/write both Portuguese and English with ease.
