Digital Projects Associate- Communications

About the Aspen Institute:

The Aspen Institute is an educational and policy studies organization based in Washington, DC. Its mission is to foster leadership based on enduring values and to provide a nonpartisan venue for dealing with critical issues. The Institute has campuses in Aspen, Colorado, and on the Wye River on Marylandís Eastern Shore. It also maintains offices in New York City and has an international network of partners.

Basic Function:

The Digital Projects Associate supports online content production and distribution for colleagues throughout the Institute. This member of the Communications Department reviews and acts upon requests to produce web content, distribute mass email, integrate video and social content, plan mobile app usage, and review online analytics.

Digital staff within the Communications Department are responsible for managing the content and the technical requirements of the Instituteís digital presence Ė including the AspenInstitute.org website, intranet, mobile apps, and numerous other online properties. The Digital Projects Associate is guided by the Manager, Digital Production and the Director of Digital Strategy.

The Associate works closely with other members of the Aspen Institute Communications Department.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Create web and email products to support the work of Aspen Institute colleagues.
  • Produce digital content related to Institute events, items in the news, and seasonal priorities.
  • Respond to incoming work requests from Aspen Institute program staff in coordination with Communications Department colleagues.
  • Administer the organizationís mobile apps.
  • Review and present website analytics to understand project performance and plan future development.
  • Support accounting and contracting needs of the Manager, Digital Production and Director of Digital Strategy.
  • Travel occasionally to support online coverage of Institute events at locations away from the Washington, DC headquarters.

Principal Interactions:

Regular interaction with the Manager, Digital Production; the Director of Digital Strategy; Communications Department staff; and program/department staff with digital involvement. Routine communication with Institute programs and appropriate external vendors.

Knowledge, Education, and Experience:

Applicants should have the following experience:

  • 1-3 years relevant work experience.
  • Undergraduate degree in communications or a related field.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience with online publishing tools, including WordPress.
  • Experience with HTML, Adobe Photoshop, and standard content production tools.
  • Experience with email list management.
  • Familiarity with popular digital media and social platforms.
  • Familiarity with Google Analytics and Google Tag Manager.
  • Design skills and experience are a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple, competing priorities.
  • Willingness to learn new technical concepts and tasks.
  • Excellent team skills but capable of working independently and being self-motivated.
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal and time management skills.
