Communications and Marketing Department

The Communications and Marketing Department creates a unified brand for the Institute by supporting, elevating, and amplifying the work of the programs and telling a cohesive and compelling story about the broader work of the Institute, its people, and its impact. The Communications and Marketing Department is a team of experts with deep experience supporting mission driven organizations.

We are seeking a communications focused intern to provide support to the Communications and Marketing department in its work to promote the Institute’s programs, content, and overall brand to external audiences.

The Intern role:

  • Supports the development of content partnerships
  • Provides support for various Institute newsletters
  • Supports a wide range of projects and focus areas including strategy execution, writing, production, media, design, social media and content creation
  • Creates social media content for Institute channels, including creating visual graphics and selecting images for use on Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn and Instagram
  • Organizes, tags and archives Institute event photos
  • Supports project management efforts as needed
  • Organizes and tag tasks and events in Wrike
  • Writes and stages content contributed by Institute staff and partners in a Wordpress CMS, adding art, hyperlinks and copy editing
  • Supports senior managers on time sensitive projects and program initiatives/events
  • Provides administrative and logistical support for the communications team in support of Institute events
  • Other duties as needed

  • Maintains outstanding organizational skills with an emphasis on time-management and attention to detail
  • Is a student or recent graduate interested in journalism, communications, public policy, or a related field
  • Is willing to submit writing samples (including work published online) and complete a writing test
  • Has a working knowledge of content management systems and other digital tools preferred; knowledge of Canva or Photoshop a plus
  • Is excellent research, writing, and verbal skills

Other details:

  • Paid internship
  • Minimum of 20 hours/week
  • December 2022/ January 2023 – June 2023 with possibility for extension
