The Stevens Initiative is an international leader in virtual exchange, which brings young people from diverse places together to collaborate and connect through everyday technology. Created in 2015 as a lasting tribute to Ambassador J. Christopher Stevens, the Initiative invests in virtual exchange programs between the U.S. and the Middle East and North Africa (MENA); shares research, resources, and promising practices to improve impact; and advocates for broader adoption. Through its 91 grants, the Stevens Initiative will expand its reach by summer 2023 to nearly 75,000 young people in 17 MENA countries and the Palestinian Territories, and in 49 U.S. states, Puerto Rico, five tribal communities, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and Washington, D.C. Basic Function:

The Stevens Initiative seeks a mission-driven, rising young professional eager to support a robust and cross-cutting communications and events portfolio. The successful candidate will be responsible, detail-oriented, and excited to strengthen existing communications, project management, and administrative skills. This position will be 16-20 hours per week, starting in January 2023 (or December, depending on successful candidate's availability), with an opportunity to extend the internship.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to the programís social media accounts including creating relevant, high-quality content to engage users and grow the programís following on social media;
  • Assist with information management and organization, including entering information into a Salesforce and Constant Contact database;
  • Assist with drafting and designing communication materials in Canva;
  • Stage blog posts contributed by Institute staff and partners in a Wordpress CMS, adding art, hyperlinks, and copy editing and assist with updating the website;
  • Organize photographs for later use on our publications and digital channels;
  • Help with administrative and logistical tasks associated with planning and executing events, including but not limited to RSVP tracking, drafting correspondences, creating registration forms, printing materials, and working with vendors;
  • Support with tracking grantee deliverables, including monthly social media posts;
  • Review transcriptions of recorded events;
  • Provide administrative support as needed;
  • Others duties as assigned.


  • Status as a student or recent graduate interested in international education;
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage time, including working on various projects at one time;
  • Firm grasp of social media tools and platforms including Facebook, LinkedIn, and Twitter;
  • Working knowledge of Canva or similar digital tools;
  • Responds well in high-stress situations;
  • Proactive and solutions-oriented;
  • Ability to communicate in a professional manner;

Ability to work independently and in teams;

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office;
  • Experience with Salesforce and Constant Contact preferred.

The Institute has implemented a mandatory COVID vaccination policy for all employees who will work at one of our physical locations, attend any of our in-person events or travel on behalf of the Institute. Staff unable to be vaccinated may request an exemption under certain circumstances.
