The Aspen Institute

The Aspen Institute is a global nonprofit organization committed to realizing a free, just, and equitable society. Since its founding in 1949, the Institute has been driving change through dialogue, leadership, and action to help solve the most critical challenges facing communities in the United States and around the world. Headquartered in Washington, DC, the Institute has a campus in Aspen, Colorado, and an international network of partners.

Commitment to Diversity, Equity & Inclusion

To achieve our mission of a more free, just, and equitable society, we commit to working proactively to advance the principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion across our myriad endeavors such as the recruitment, compensation, training, and advancement of staff. The best people-serving institutions make this commitment, and we seek to be a leader in the ways that we do so and learn from others. Visit our website to learn more about our commitment and recent actions taken toward building and nurturing a diverse and inclusive environment.

The Leadership Division of the Aspen Institute builds off?its 70-year history of developing leaders across generations and place to become more effective, values-based leaders. Today, the Division supports the life-long development of leaders through its seminar offerings, youth programs, and the?Aspen?Global Leadership Network. Weave: The Social Fabric Project operates within the Leadership Division, supporting and learning from grass-roots community leaders and connecting them with Aspen’s leadership network.

Weave: The Social Fabric Project is a backbone organization supporting and strengthening the grassroots trust brokers whom we call weavers. Weave identifies and supports the people quietly working to strengthen America’s communities.

Weave aims to solve the problem of broken social trust that has left Americans divided along many lines, isolated and unable to address our common needs. Without trust, we cannot ensure individual happiness and equity, strengthen our communities, or sustain our democracy.

Weave works in three ways:

  • We support the people (“weavers”) who are spreading trust and tackling important issues in their neighborhoods by providing them with resources and connection to a community of other weavers

  • We lift up these often under-appreciated trust builders to be seen as resources and leaders of community change

  • We inspire new generations of weavers
