About ANDE

The Aspen Network of Development Entrepreneurs (ANDE) is a global net­work of organizations that propel entrepreneurship in emerging markets. ANDE mem­bers provide critical financial, educational, and business support services to small and growing businesses (SGBs) based on the conviction that SGBs will create jobs, stimulate long-term economic growth, and produce environmental and social benefits. Ultimately, we believe that SGBs can help lift countries out of poverty.

Launched with 34 members in 2009, ANDE now comprises more than 290 members who collectively operate in more than 150 countries. Members of ANDE include both for and nonprofit investment funds, capacity development providers, research and academic institutions, development finance institutions, foundations and corporations from around the world. Based in Washington, D.C. with several offices in emerging markets, the ANDE team works hard to support members globally, and locally, while building strong ecosystems for entrepreneurial growth. The opportunity

You are a hard-working graduate or undergraduate student who thinks a lot about global development and how to change the world. You love traveling and jump at any chance to connect with people from other countries. You’re curious about the intersection of business and development, and are interested in how startups, small businesses, and entrepreneurship can have an impact on local economies. You take pride in focusing on details and are the first to raise your hand to help with any task, however small it may be. You have diverse interests and can see yourself jumping in and learning new skills that could contribute to a better livelihood for an entrepreneur in a developing country.

Likely projects for the fall could include:

- Event Support: Supporting preparations for our fall events, including our largest annual event, the ANDE Annual Conference, as well as other smaller-scale events.

- Database and Administrative Support: Updating information in our CRM database, communicating with members to confirm data, supporting all staff with a variety of administrative needs

- Communications Support: Writing and proofreading blog posts, updating website content, reviewing and compiling newsletters

- Conducting Research: Researching potential member opportunities, staying up to date on various topic areas of interest to ANDE members

Who are we looking for?

  • A creative, passionate individual, wanting to learn about entrepreneurship in emerging markets
  • An undergraduate or graduate student majoring in Business, International Development, Social Sciences, Economics, Finance or something similar
  • Excellent writing and communication skills
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Adaptable – able to support multiple ongoing projects and pivot to new tasks quickly
  • Strong attention to detail
  • IT Management Skills – Microsoft, Excel, Power Point and Internet
  • Experience with Salesforce (preferable)
  • Graphic design and communication skills (preferable)

Details about the role

  • Timing is late August or early September to mid-November or early December, around a total of three months
  • 15-20 hours a week, depending on availability
  • This is a paid position. The hourly rate is minimum wage.
