Program Manager- Stevens Initiative

The Stevens Initiative is an international effort to build global competence for young people in the United States and the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) by growing and enhancing the field of virtual exchange: online, international, and collaborative learning. The Initiative is a lasting tribute to the legacy of Ambassador Chris Stevens and aims to offer an unprecedented number of young people the opportunity to connect youth in the United States and the Middle East and North Africa virtually in sustained and meaningful ways. NOTE: this position is based in the United Arab Emirates.

Basic Function:

The Stevens Initiative is seeking a Program Manager to implement strategies to expand the Initiativeís work in the Gulf Region, primarily the United Arab Emirates (UAE), and the Middle East as needed. This is a position that reports to the Executive Director based in Washington, DC.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Implement strategy to launch and scale Stevens Initiative supported programming and virtual exchange more broadly in the UAE, performing a full landscape analysis, building networks of NGOs, education leaders, and other organizations interested in virtual exchange programs with the United States and raising awareness on virtual exchange with communities who may not be familiar with the concept;
  • Identify government, business, and civil society leaders to engage on behalf of the Stevens Initiative and convene them in informational meetings to raise awareness and support for the program;
  • Oversee projects under the Stevens Initiative in the Middle East, including conducting regular site visits and drafting success stories based on the visits, calls with program managers and evaluation managers, and provide regular progress updates to the Stevens Initiative team;
  • Act as main point of contact for the Initiative in the UAE, coordinating with U.S. and UAE government representatives and updating them on the progress,
  • Coordinate schedules of partners and program timelines to ensure videos and photos of projects on the ground are well documented;
  • Support all program events to be held in the UAE, including arranging all logistics, coordinating with local vendors, speakers, and other participants;
  • Coordinate quarterly meetings of Stevens Initiative awardee partners on the ground to ensure the network is well-connected and growing;
  • Engage with local press to raise awareness of the Initiative, such as by sharing success stories, inviting them to attend Stevens Initiative events, and sharing announcements; 
  • Represent the program in conferences, developing networks and raising awareness about the Initiative; 
  • Advise and participate in grant-making activities to meritorious organizations; 
  • As necessary, deliver technical assistance and guidance to awardees and practitioners in coordination with other colleagues.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelorís degree and 5+ years of experience in relevant field;
  • Excellent writing and communications skills in English required;
  • Self-starter with demonstrated ability in partnership building and project management;
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite;
  • Ability to meet deadlines and deliver in a fast-paced environment;
  • Ability to travel within the Middle East and North Africa;
  • Proficiency in Arabic;
  • Significant regional experience and exposure to business/development;
  • Ability to work in a global team and on different time zones;
  • Strong interest in and support for the mission of the Aspen Institute and the Stevens Initiative.
Timeframe:     
  • October 2018 Ė December 2019 

This position is being recruited through the Aspen Institute and for its work. Candidates living outside the US (where the Aspen Institute is based) will be hired by a local partner who will serve as the employer of record.
