The Aspen Partnership for an Inclusive Economy (APIE)

APIE is the first-ever enterprise level initiative of the Institute which seeks to address one of the defining challenges of our time -- growing economic inequality. The Aspen Partnership for an Inclusive Economy harnesses assets from across the Institute – combining the ideas, talents and resources of the public, private, and nonprofit sectors to develop solutions to address the growing threat of economic inequality. Through this platform the Aspen Institute seeks to accelerate the tipping point for change.

Basic Function

The Press Intern will provide support to APIE’s and the Aspen Institute’s central Communications & Marketing department in its work to promote the organization’s inclusive economy work in the media. The job can be performed remotely, but some in-person work may be expected as events and work activities return to in-person.  

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Research journalists and media outlets relevant to the Aspen Institute’s inclusive economy work and events, building tailored press lists using PR software.
  • Draft copy for media advisories, press releases, and press pitches.
  • Develop and maintain a running list of Aspen Institute inclusive economy press coverage and provide key metrics.
  • Monitor the news and generate ideas for relevant story pitches tied to upcoming research, Institute events, and in-house expertise.
  • Provide administrative and logistical support for APIE’s and the central communications team.
  • Other duties as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Status as a student or recent graduate interested in journalism, communications, public policy, or a related field.
  • Must be willing to submit writing samples (including work published online) and complete a writing test.
  • Working knowledge of PR concepts and best practices
  • Working knowledge of PR software a plus, particularly Meltwater;
  • Excellent research, writing, and verbal skills.
  • Commitment to detail.

Time Frame:

  • March 2022- March 2023
  • Paid internship
  • Minimum of 20 hours/week
  • Up to one year

The Institute has implemented a mandatory COVID vaccination policy for all employees who will work at one of our physical locations, attend any of our in-person events or travel on behalf of the Institute. Staff unable to be vaccinated may request an exemption under certain circumstances.
